Competent and knowledgeable, but communication could improve

I engaged Dane ZoBell of Felesky Flynn LLP to assist with updating my estate plan, including a will and a family trust. His background, including his recognition in trusts and estates law, was a primary reason for my choice. He is clearly knowledgeable, and his analysis of the tax implications for my assets was thorough, drawing on his broader general practice experience. The documents he drafted were comprehensive and professionally executed. However, my experience was a mixed bag. While the final product was solid, the process felt less personal than I expected. There were significant delays in receiving drafts, sometimes waiting over a week for a response to simple follow-up emails. Getting clarity on fee structures for future trust administration also required more back-and-forth than I felt was necessary. For straightforward legal matters, Mr. ZoBell’s expertise from the University of Alberta and his years in practice are evident and reliable. Yet, for clients who prioritize consistent, proactive communication and clear timelines, the service experience may feel merely adequate. You will get competent legal work, but managing expectations around client service is advisable.
